The Esmuc, (Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya) is an educational institution in public service that views music as a multi-disciplinary phenomenon which plays a dynamic role in the musical and cultural panorama of Cataluña.  It is an institution for Higher Education in Music situated in the heart of Barcelona  sharing the architectural complex of the Auditori Nacional de Catalunya.

The school opened its Doors in 2001 in Barcelona.  Today, with more than 700 students in the Bachelor’s and Master’s Program with students from 28 countries, the Esmuc offers an inspiring environment  to develop  musicians as a distinguished musical institution at a high international level based on the excellence of its teaching.

The Cañizares Brothers, Juan Manuel and Rafael Cañizares, teach the guitar courses and Jose Miguel Vizcaya “Chiki de la Linea” is the professor of Flamenco singing.  It is important to note that the Esmuc is the only graduate center for Music Studies which offers specialized study in flamenco singing.  This alone demonstrates the commitment and clear support by the Esmuc for flamenco music and the very rich tradition within Catalunya.

The center is situated as part of the architectural structure of the Auditori Nacional de Catalunya, near the National Theater of Cataluña.  It has extraordinary installations for teaching music:  concert halls for Orchestra, for Choir, a professional recording Studio, rooms for jazz combos, study rooms, a library, and a school instrument room – these are among the most important of its many features.
