The Master’s Degree in Flamenco at the Esmuc (Escola Superior de Musica de Catalunya) is a pioneering initiative in this musical field.This branch of study focuses on incorporating academic objectives within the art of flamenco which are included in conservartories and universities. The purpose of this study is to open new concepts and methodologies to further broaden academic investigation into the art of flamenco, as it is a universally recognised art form capable of breaking the barriers of strictly musical or artistic fields. Flamenco is uniquely capable of forging a multidisciplinary, empirical place in the academic world. It is an official Master.

The program is divided into two separate itineraries: Performance and Flamencology, (flamenco research).

PERFORMANCE: This branch of the program is aimed at training students
in interpretation and performance practice in order to produce professional flamenco performers. (on-campus).

FLAMENCOLOGY: This program is aimed at students interested in the
study of the theoretical aspects of Flamenco music. (100% online).

Master flamenco Barcelona

The goal is to provide training for a very high level of playing on the specified instruments.  This training would prepare students to become professional players on the concert stage.  The final project for the Master’s program consists of recording a CD in a professional Studio, its post-production as well as a public recital.

OBJECTIVES

The two different programs offered in the Master of flamenco offer a broad educational base which is divided into required courses for all of the flamenco master’s students, specialized individual courses, complementary theoretical classes and a variety of elective courses.  There will also be a final written thesis for the Master’s Degree and some external practical work as well.

Group flamenco sessions/classes and flamenco fusion

Accompanying classes are offered to accompany singers and dancers guided by a trio of professors including a guitarist, singer and dancer who will coach and accompany these classes.

The student will be required to record a CD in a professional studio and/or present a post-production final master’s concert

Courses include: Flamenco composition techniques, analyses of Flamenco, arranging for Flamenco and a wide range of elective subjects to choose from.  Some of these elective courses could be related to jazz study or shared within the flamencology program.

Students will also be able to participate in master classes with leading figures in the world of Flamenco today as complementary classes

METHODOLOGY 

The teaching methodology will be based on individual instrumental classes, collective classes, (theoretical, group ensembles, working groups) and in guided individual work.

DEGREE

Once the course requirements are completed, the Student will receive the degree of  Master in Flamenco Specialty: performance.

FLAMENCOLOGY ITINERARY (direct access to Doctoral Studies)

Modality: 100 % ONLINE

This program is aimed at people with a Bachelor’s degree in music, humanities , social sciences and communication, involvement in the audiovisual world or any other field of specialty which uniquely focuses on the area of research in flamenco.

OBJECTIVES

The objective of this program is to promote a multidisciplinary vision of flamenco which provides tools for the development and in-depth study of current research into this field. The aim is to open new horizons based on both the analytical and empirical study of the art of Flamenco.  All of this through a methodological training which would facilitate the student’s direct insertion into professional practice on completing the degree.

 

-The online modality is based on the incorporation of new technologies, all from the virtual campus

-This offers a platform which permits the student to adapt to and organize their study availability and schedules.

- Planning of each subject based on dynamic didactic material within a weekly program

-Study whenever and wherever the students want, in the schedule that best meets the student’s needs.

- Two Video Conferences with the professors of each Subject

- Personalized tutoring with the Professor-Tutor of each subject.

The ESMUC creates a planning of each course based on dynamic didactic material with a detailed manual of the course work. In addition to the manual, multimedia reference material will be provided which includes audio and visual guides.
